Day 3 of The Kindness Challenge

Day 3: Choices are golden

Remember how you used to give choices to your preschool children? This approach works well with older kids, too, and helps you give correction without negativity. Next time your kiddo forgets their chores, instead of harping on it and insisting they do it immediately ("You forgot again – do it now!"), give them options instead. "Would you rather mow the lawn now or wait until after dinner?" They'll enjoy the freedom to make their own decisions as well as the fact that you did not belabor their fault.

Coach's Corner: We are often negative in our parent-child communication without realizing it. What is your unrealized negativity pattern? Arguing? Exasperation? Or something else? Take a look at chapter 6 in The Kindness Challenge and catalog the ways you are negative with your child, to see what you most want to work on during these 30 days.
