Day 22: Turn complaints into praise
Have you spoken negatively about your person to someone else in the past? (For example, have you complained about your colleague's grumpiness?) Make a list of the main people you've complained to. Today and over the next few weeks, casually mention to those people something that you now appreciate about your person. ("Did I tell you that Rochelle got nominated for the most responsive customer care representative?")
"When we say and share agitation, we grow more agitated ourselves. Venting or mouthing off might feel great in the moment, but rarely the next day...or even the next hour. Instead, it feeds vindictiveness and tension. Thankfully, it works the other way as well. Once we refuse to enter into that agitation and instead respond with kindness, not only do we often defuse a tense situation but we feel more kind and peaceful as well."
— The Kindness Challenge
Coach's Corner: As you develop your kindness skills, move beyond improving your own mindset, and work to heal concerns you may have previously raised in the minds of others. (Have you already been working to heal some of those concerns? Share those stories – carefully! – on your blog or social media, using #joinkindness.)
The 30-Day Kindness Challenge is brought to you via our partnership with Shaunti Feldhahn, and is based on her research for The Kindness Challenge.
