Day 3: "I do" isn't the end of the story

Pick one of these statements to tell your wife tonight, and follow up in action if appropriate. (Do this even if – especially if! – you are dealing with current conflict or irritation with each other.)

"I thought about you today."

"Let me watch the kids tonight. You deserve a break."

"Can I pray for you about that?"

"I'm turning off my phone and computer for the night."

Coach's corner:

Why do those phrases matter so much?

To your wife, your "I do" probably wasn't the end of the story. Every day, most women subconsciously wonder "'Do you' ... still?" Especially after an argument, or when she recognizes that she no longer looks like the bikini babe you married, or when her inner Cruella DeVille comes out. So, every day she needs reassurance that you love her. The four statements above are examples of how to say exactly that. And developing a habit of signaling that will make her feel more secure. (Which is why you'll find these ideas sprinkled throughout the coming days as well.)

What is your unrecognized negativity pattern? Arguing? Irritation? Venting? Moping? Or something else?

See Chapter 6 of The Kindness Challenge for the seven different types of negativity. Identify which one(s) you most need to work on during these 30 days.
