Day 17: Make them laugh
Email or text your person a silly joke or funny video - something that is THEIR type of humor – with a note.
Coach's Corner: Is it easier today, than earlier in the Challenge, to figure out something that would be interesting to your person? That's because you're "learning" them. If it isn't yet easier, use this as a prompt to get more serious about studying your person. The research found that in most cases, doing so becomes second nature and yields a host of benefits for the relationship.
A caution: the right kind of humor is a great bridge in a challenging relationship, but be careful with sarcasm.
"In an environment with total goodwill (where people know with 100 percent certainty that the other person cares about them), some teasing and trash-talking can be fun. Without total goodwill, it gets destructive fast. And even with total goodwill, it gets tiring if it happens a lot."
