Day 8 of the Kindness Challenge

Day 8: Be thankful

Find one thing your person has done recently that you can be thankful for and send them an email, text or note of gratitude. ("Thanks for stepping up for me in that meeting yesterday." "Your promptness in getting those numbers to me this morning is much appreciated!" "It was so helpful when you took that table in my station for me today when I got seated with the party of 12. Thank you!")

Coach's Corner: Most of us want to be affirming, yet the research found we don't actually state praise as often as we think we do. Ten common, unseen obstacles keep us from stating praise; see Chapter 7 to determine which you most need to work on.

(Also, to avoid unintended signals remember to keep praises workplace-appropriate if your person is not the same gender. If you're a woman that comes with the added benefit of being perceived as a leader, instead of the opposite.)

The 30-Day Kindness Challenge is brought to you via our partnership with Shaunti Feldhahn, and is based on her research for The Kindness Challenge.
