Day 20: Get the Kids Involved

Do you have children or step-children? Today, bring up those things he does, and explicitly make the connection for your kids, that this is a big way he shows how much he loves them. ("I know Dad has to travel for his job, but he doesn't want to be away from you. In fact, he's working so hard, so that we can stay in this home, and pay for your soccer league. Working so hard is one of the big ways he says "I love you.")

Then, ask your kids how THEY think they can show their appreciation for him today. Ideas could range from giving Dad a neck rub to making him a bowl of ice cream or drawing a picture or doing one of his chores for him. Or, if they are older, simply having them call him to catch up.

Don't have kids? If you and your husband know anyone in the next generation, ask them if there's anything they particularly appreciate about him. If so, tell him what they said. And (if appropriate) even have them secretly write an appreciative email or note for your husband and send it to you. Then tape it into the journal if you are keeping one.

Coach's Corner:

The Kindness Challenge research revealed that hearing gratitude is like an emotional paycheck to our soul and fuel for our happiness. And thankfulness is one of the most important lessons that we can model and teach our children. So make some deposits of kindness and fill up that happiness tank!!
