Day 9 of the Kindness Challenge

Day 9: Engaging their interests

Email or text a news article or picture to your coworker that you know they would appreciate (about their industry area of expertise, sports team, or even a hobby or outside interest they have mentioned at work) with a note, "This was interesting - thought I'd pass it along in case you hadn't seen it." Or, "Did you see this? I know you are a big fan of [their team, food, topic]."

Coach's Corner: Depending on your work culture, it is usually safest to only address topics that you have heard your person talk about at work, or that they present as obvious outside interests by, for example, a sports pennant in their office. An interesting but obscure survey about the industry is an obvious choice. But also, perhaps they've talked about a favorite television show, marathon training, or how much they love getting away to go ice fishing. Maybe they support a particular non-profit or sports team. Any provide options to help you continue to connect with your person at work when a lighter topic is beneficial.
