Day 2 of The Kindness Challenge

Day 2: Give him time to chill

Today, give your husband permission to truly relax. You can be spontaneous or give him time to plan. "Hey, I know your schedule has been busy lately, why don't you take a break and go do something just for you—take a nap, read, just chill, whatever you want." Or "Hey, I know that big game is this weekend and your brother mentioned getting tickets. Go ahead and give him a call and go. You deserve it!"

Coach's Corner:

Many well-known marriage researchers, including John Gottman and Brad Wilcox, as well as the research for The Surprising Secrets of Highly Happy Marriages have concluded that "one key predictor of whether a couple is happy is whether one spouse regularly performs small gestures or marital kindness and generosity for the other."

If he's like most men, your husband's concern for providing for his family likely weighs him down more than you know: so giving him permission to relax and play can be incredibly freeing for him. It's a small gesture that means a lot.

If you are writing in a gift journal for your husband, start today by writing a note to him about how much you appreciate what he does for the family, and how that makes you feel special, valued, and loved.

The 30-Day Kindness Challenge is brought to you via our partnership with Shaunti Feldhahn, and is based on her research for The Kindness Challenge.
