Day 6 of The Kindness Challenge

Day 6: Everyone makes mistakes: be supportive

Everyone makes mistakes, and is touched by unconditional support and encouragement—especially when they don't deserve it. The next time your person suffers consequences from a mistake (maybe they were embarrassed in a meeting, criticized by a supervisor, or called out for running late), offer your unconditional support and/or encouragement with no mention of what your coworker did wrong. ("Sorry to hear you have to work late this Friday. I know that's the day of your son's birthday party. Is there anything I can do to help you?")

Coach's Corner: Avoid the temptation to correct or criticize (e.g. "You might consider starting work on the board meeting presentation earlier next quarter.") That sort of corrective statement can come later—after the person sees your unconditional support, and only if absolutely necessary.

Watch this short bonus video from Shaunti and learn more about how to "see" and catch your previously unseen unkindnesses.
