Day 7 of the Kindness Challenge

Day 7: Checking in

Accountability check: How are you doing at nixing your negativity—either to your coworker or about them to somebody else? Look back on the past week and identify any times you were negative, despite your efforts. List those in your observation notebook, identifying the reasons you slipped up ("It's so tempting to join in when my colleagues are dissing our boss, because I feel the urge to vent too!") and what you could have done to prevent it. ("I could have left the break room when they started talking about her before I got sucked in.") Pick one or two success strategies to employ next time.

Coach's Corner: The unrealized ways we are negative are usually what most sabotage our efforts to be kind—without our ever realizing it. So knowing and addressing our negativity triggers is a small action with a huge impact. If you are still unsure what your negativity triggers are, there's a list in Chapter 6.

Coach's Check-In: Congratulations! You've made it through the first week. Even if you aren't yet seeing results, you will! And the most positive change may be the way you feel about yourself (Use #joinkindness to post about your efforts, and see how others are doing.)
